- Compiling the TADS Author's Manual
- ----------------------------------
-
- In order to use these source files to generate a printable or viewable
- version of the TADS Author's Manual, you need TeX, a computer typesetting
- system that is freely available. TeX runs on most computer systems, and
- is available from a number of public network sites, so you shouldn't have
- much difficulty finding a copy for your system. Refer to the
- documentation that comes with the TeX package you obtain for information
- on setting up and using TeX.
-
- The TeX program that produces the manual automatically generates a table
- of contents and index, although the index really requires manual massaging
- to make it reasonable; the computer-generated index comes out a bit low in
- the area of signal-to-noise, and a little manual intervention helps a lot
- to make it more useful. This archive comes with a version of the index
- and table of contents files that have been previously generated, and the
- included index has had some manual attention (this is, in fact, the same
- index that was used for the printed version of the TADS Author's Manual
- that High Energy Software distributed to registered TADS users). If you
- want to use the existing index, simply use (or follow the instructions in)
- the included DOS batch TADS2_3.BAT. If you want to start from the
- beginning and generate your own index, use TADS2.BAT, and follow the
- instructions at the end to create your own index.
-
-
- Compiling the TADS 2.1 Release Notes
- ------------------------------------
-
- The 2.1 release notes are contained in the file TADS21.TEX. Run this file
- through TeX to produce printable or viewable version. The separate file
- TADS21C.TEX contains the table of contents; this depends on a file
- (T21C.TEX) generated during the TeX compilation of TADS21.TEX (although a
- pre-generated copy is included in this archive), so you should normally
- compile TADS21.TEX first, then compile TADS21C.TEX.
-
-
- Printing the TADS 2.2 Upgrade Manual
- ------------------------------------
-
- You need Lotus Ami Pro to print the 2.2 Upgrade Manual. The individual
- .SAM files stand alone; you can simply load and print each file.
